Stant and Derrick Smith were paid $6,500 each to assault Nancy on January 6, 1994, so that she would be unable to compete and Nancy would easily win.
Jeff and his accomplice Shawn Eckardt hired Stant and Derrick. Despite missing the championship, Nancy recovered in time to compete in the 1994 Winter Olympics after Shane hit her in the leg with a telescopic baton.
Following his capture, Jeff was sentenced to two years in prison and $100,000 in exchange for his guilty plea. He is now a free man.

After being released from prison, Gillooly appeared determined to put the past behind him. He’d officially changed his surname to Stone and shaved his distinctive mustache.
He now lives in the same small Oregon town where he was born, raised, married, and eventually divorced from Harding.
According to Deseret News, he met Nancy Sharkey for the first time in 1991 when she gave him a manicure at her salon. Nancy Sharkey paid him visits while he was incarcerated, and they remarried in 1995.
The couple had two children, Haley and Noah, before divorcing in 2000; Sharkey committed suicide the following year. Gillooly married for the second time in 2012.
