How did Larry Mazza become involved in the world of the Dark Mafia?

Before becoming a mobster, he worked as a delivery boy in Brooklyn’s Danza’s supermarket, where he met Linda Schiro, an elegant woman in her 30s. Linda was one of his customers, and he offered her soft drinks after delivering her groceries.

Linda unexpectedly asked him if he wanted to have some fun. He later told the New York Post that her question was almost insulting because he had never seen a girl that feisty before. “So I told, ‘Of course, I fool around – what do you think, I’m gay?” Schiro then laughed and asked if he wanted to meet her later, according to him. He returned that night and was immediately drawn to him.

“She was wearing this one-piece, black jumpsuit. She had beautiful eyes, very Italian-looking. Linda put a bottle of wine out and some M&M’s. They had a few glasses. Next, we were on the couch getting hot and heavy,” he explained to the New York Post.

Larry Mazza was unfamiliar with Schiro and her husband. Linda was married to one of the Colombo Crime Family’s bosses, Gregory ‘The Grim Reaper’ Scarpa. He allegedly boasted that he “stopped counting” after murdering 50 people while serving as a capo in the Colombo family.

Scarpa’s wife, Linda, was also the mother of his son, Greg Jr., and his mentor, a business partner with whom he discussed the Colombo strategy. Scarpa was introduced to him by his newfound girlfriend. “She said, ‘He can do a lot for you.'” “I want you to succeed,” he said. Linda then introduced him to Scarpa and, eventually, the gangster world.

Scarpa told Mazza he had a supply company that sold fire extinguishers during dinner. He then got him a job in sales. Though the new job initially worked out, the business soon fell apart, and Mazza found himself in limbo. Scarpa should get into the number business, she suggested to her husband.

Larry Mazza soon found work as a debt collector at a racetrack. Mazza would collect number slips as players bet a dollar to win $500 in the daily drawing, which was based on racetrack results. Soon after, he becomes an enforcer, forcing people to pay their debts.

Lottery machines are prohibited in any store. He claimed that one had a truck driven through their shopfront and that another had unpaid visits from them. The topics of the lessons eventually shifted to murders. Mazza explained that he got involved in a murder in small steps, starting with when the bus dropped him off, then grabbing a shovel the next time.

Later, he brutally beat Scarpa’s livery car for trying to kiss Schiro’s 14-year-old daughter in Prospect Park instead of school. Meanwhile, his affair with Schiro has continued. Scarpa even accepted Larry and Linda’s affair after it lasted ten years.

“I wound up in the Colombo family as a soldier,” he claimed, admitting his involvement in the assaults and bashings. The Colombo family then split into two factions and went to war, which meant “kill or be killed.” The fight was between Victor Orena, the underboss, and patriarch Carmine Persico, who was a prisoner.

Larry Mazza had long been a Persico supporter, so he and Mazza’s friend Jimmy Delmastro set out on a mission to eliminate any Orena supporters they could find. He claimed that he awoke every day for eight months to go looking for people to murder.

No one was killed, but Greg’s crew took down a major Oreno loyalist, Vinnie Fusaro, a couple of weeks before Christmas 1991.

Larry stated that they were passing by the social club where Vinnie’s guys hung out when they noticed Vinnie’s car. Greg shot Fusaro behind the ear with his army shotgun, an M52, while he was in his driveway hanging Christmas lights on the garage. Scarpa allegedly shot Vinnie twice more, once in the neck and once in the body.

Another heinous murder was that of one of Orena’s top lieutenants, Nicholas “Nicky Black” Grancio. The group made their move, picking up Grancio’s Toyota Land Cruiser on Brooklyn’s Avenue U. Larry stated that he knew Grancio was in the car, and that his nephew was a passenger.

They were in a sedan with a large walkie-talkie, coffee cups in the window, and a blue police siren. He thought Grancio didn’t notice them because he was convinced it was against the law.

Larry Mazza had the shotgun stolen from a Lakewood, New Jersey police car. Mazza stated that when he was told to get Grancio, he opened his window and pulled out the shotgun. “So I opened my window and pulled out the shotgun.” I was close enough that I could have smacked him. Instead, I aimed behind his ear and saw his whole face fly off, including his nose, and hit the windscreen. It was chilling.”

Larry’s career as a mobster came to an end when he was shot in the eye and forced to flee to Florida. By the end of his mobster career, Mazza had been involved in 25 murder plots, four of which he had directly fired the fatal shot.

She is also known as the “Grim Reaper” or “Mad Hatter,” and is suspected of murdering around 120 people before his death in 1994. Greg died of AIDS after contracting the disease from a blood transfusion for a bleeding ulcer, despite his crew’s insistence on using their blood. He had been infected by a contaminated steroid needle.

She had worked as an FBI agent for three decades, even when he was a Mafia criminal lord, until he died.

Scarpa’s death shocked Larry Mazza, who was serving a life sentence in prison for racketeering, murder, gambling, and other offenses. Mazza had been loyal to Scarpa for years and was perplexed when he discovered his double life. Nonetheless, he was sentenced to nine years in prison.
